Volvio una noche – en ingles

Letra de Alfredo Le Pera
Música de Carlos Gardel

VOLVIO UNA NOCHE/She came back one night

She came back one night,
I didn’t expect her,
So much anxiety was upon her face,
that I felt pity,
in making her remember
all her felony
and her heartlessness.
She said to me humbly:
If you will forgive me,
the good old days
will come back again.
Spring is our life,
and you will see,
all will smile on us.

Lies, lies, I wanted to say;
the hours that have passed
just cannot come back.
And so the fondness
which held us together
is nothing but a phantom
of the far ancient past,
which is already impossible
to return to life.
I quieted my bitterness
and had pity for her;
those blue eyes of hers,
were widely opened,
they soon understood,
my enormous sorrow,
and with a grimace
of defeated woman,
she said: it is life.
And I saw her no more.

She came back that night,
I’ll never forget her,
with her sorrowful
and lackluster gaze.
And I was afraid
of that ghost
who was the madness
of my younger days.
She left me silently,
without a scolding,
I searched for a mirror,
wanting to see myself.
There were upon my forehead
so many winters
that she felt pity too.

Lies, lies, I wanted to say;
the hours that have passed
just cannot come back.
And so the fondness
which held us together
is nothing but a phantom
of the far ancient past,
which is already impossible
to revive once again.
I quieted my bitterness
and had pity for her;
Those blue eyes of hers,
were widely opened,
they soon understood,
my enormous sorrow,
and with a grimace
of defeated woman,
she said: it is life.
And I saw her no more.
